Sunshine Blogger Award

Sunshine Blogger Award

I was nominated about three weeks ago for the Sunshine Blogger Award by the wonderful Jessica at Eclectic Indigo Gypsy8.

For those of you who don’t know, the Sunshine Blogger Award is a sort of encouragement amongst bloggers.  If someone nominates you, it means that they find your blog to be inspiring and believe that you bring a bit of sunshine to readers.

Think of it as spreading the love and showing one another some appreciation.

It’s therefore an incredible feeling to be nominated for this award. To think that there are people out there who actually believe in me and this blog is something I will always treasure. So thank you, Jessica. Thank you so much.

Definitely go check out Jessica’s blog: http://eclecticindigogypsy8.com She’s a newbie blogger and working hard to get her site jam-packed with DIY projects, home and garden decor, and crafts. I particularly like her DIY Necklace Holder/Organiser.

Rules for the Sunshine Blogger Award:
  1. Write a post where you:
    • Thank the person who nominated you for the Award and include a link to their website;
    • Answer the questions provided;
    • Display the Sunshine Award logo.
  2. Nominate 10 other inspiring blogs for this award. List your nominees with links to their sites.
  3. Notify your nominees of their award through their site or on social media & send them these rules.

Jessica gave me 10 questions to answer. Here are my answers:

What is your favourite part about blogging?

This might sound a bit cheesy. My favourite part about blogging is the fact that I might be helping someone out there while also helping myself. I’ve always loved writing, so I felt as though I had lost a huge part of myself when I stopped due to my depression. My writing has more meaning now than it ever did, and being an active member of the mental health and blogging communities is a huge accomplishment.

What makes you happy?

There are a few things that make me truly happy. Family, friends, my boyfriend, animals. I also love learning and achieving something. The ultimate answer is: The little hints and glimmers of the person I want to be shining through.

Where is the coolest place you have travelled to?

I can’t choose! I was in awe of the Niagara Falls when I went to Canada, and Berlin and the Isle of Wight both amazed me with what they had to offer. But I will never forget going to the Krugar National Park in South Africa and seeing the Big 5 out in the wild. Now that was cool!

What is the biggest frustration in your life right now?

My mental health. I want to accomplish so much, but I just end up overwhelming myself and taking three steps back. And then I end up comparing myself with people who are doing this and that with their lives, writing books while working a full-time job, and I just feel shitty. But I can’t do much about it just yet except focus on getting myself better. Maybe one day I’ll manage to jump the hurdle and do all the things that I want to do.

Do you have any pets?

I have a cross-bred dog called Kim – he’s mixed with a poodle, schnauzer, border terrier, and who knows what else! – and seven rats: Hotch, Gideon, Brecht, Tesla, Thembo, Maxwell, and Taylor. Kim is surprisingly taken to them; he seems to think they’re his pups!

What is your favourite thing to cook?

I love making curries. They’re the sort of meal where you can throw any ingredients in it and love it. Any vegetables I don’t like but could benefit from get added to my curries. And they’re so easy to cook!

What is a weird/interesting fact about you that most people don’t know?

I can get my feet up and behind my head. Will that do?

What are 5 things on your bucket list?

Oh my, there are so many!

  1. Write and publish a book;
  2. Go skydiving;
  3. Hike up a mountain;
  4. See the Northern Lights;
  5. Complete a triathlon.
How do you handle stress?

I’m trying to start running the tension off, but for now I try and focus on reading or crafts. It’s a bit harder to do that at work or college though. Instead I try to concentrate on my breathing to calm me down and remind myself that it’s only temporary.

What inspired you to start a blog?

Initially it was purely because I loved writing and wanted to share my short stories and poems. Now, because of my experience with mental illness, I want to help others as much as I can. I know I’m not an expert in any way, but if I can help someone just by letting them know that they’re not alone, that’s good enough for me.

So now for my nominees

I would like to nominate the following bloggers for the Sunshine Blogger Award:

These bloggers are amazing and you should definitely follow them. They inspire me so much and I just want to say a big thank you to each and every one of them. I’m so glad I came across your blogs.

Thanks again to Jessica at Eclectic Indigo Gypsy8 for nominating me.

Keep smiling!

  1. Hi Claire! I finally finished mine. What an incredibly hard post for me to write as it was so personal. Thank you again for your nomination! Now we have to figure out how we are going to hold each other accountable for the other project!

  2. Hi Claire! Thanks for the honor! I was just headed over to your blog to say ‘hi’ and you surprised me! You’ve been an inspiration to me too. I love these friendships that come about by blogging. Lots of love and happy Friday!
